Between The Chaos Lies Beauty

nicolaengela-duet

This morning started off early. No really early. Woke up at 4.30, left at 5am, got stuck in traffic (now this is very unusual for a Saturday morning – when it’s still dark out).

At the end though, even with the judges being late too, all went well. My students performed 16 dances in less than 45 minutes. Most of the dancers dancing in at least 2 items too. This means quick changes and over all chaos!

Clothes fell off, backstage and center stage. Clothes fell apart. Make-up was a rush. But it worked and through all of this I did not get one photo. I am so disappointed about that!

This is the first time that my dancers took part in a closed competition like this -meaning only them and the judges were allowed into the hall. Even the poor teacher (me) could not watch. At the end of the day though (8am) this was the best thing out as the few sneak peaks I did get left me so stressed out.

Well done to all my lovely dancers. you worked very hard towards this and hard work always pays off. Now go rest! Go baby your injuries. No stressing, we will fix all broken clothes before next weekend. I love you all.

One of my students started his blog yesterday and for me it is so great to read his side of the story.

Finding the Silver Lining

The dance studio I have taught at for the past five years is closing down. Shock!!!! Well it was to me. Strangely enough I immediately knew what i was going to about it and was not left wondering ‘what now?’, not even for even a second. This surprised me, and possibly other people too. I know exactly what I am going to do now… I’m opening my own dance and pilates studio.

Through my five years of working at Donzelle Dance Studio I learnt a lot of what I would do, and a lot of what I wouldn’t do if I had my own studio. I have always wanted to open my own studio and I see the fact that Donzelle Dance Studio is closing down as a blessing in disguise and possibly the push I needed to get started. Studio of Motion (my new studio) is a not only a dance studio but a Pilates and dance photography studio too.

I am so excited about this new chapter in my life, and even though my heart breaks at the thought of my old studio closing down, I know it has happened for a specific reason.

I have been working really hard for the past few weeks and am proud to say that I will have 2 studio’s, the facebook page is done, and the website is getting there (you can already register and download the prospectus).

Donzelle Show 2008

Yey! Our show DVD finally arrived. I have to say the videographer did an awesome job and the quality of the DVD is the best we have ever had from one of our shows. Here are a few screen shots from the show itself.

New Project!

Hi! So I am currently busy with a new (very exciting) project.

For now, i’m not going to say what it is but I will say that it will mean some changes. Definately good changes though. I will be unveilling it (hopefully) soon and I am very excited to share it with everyone.

I promise to give updates about this new project soon.

Current Reads

Well I went shopping the other day. Fun? Not really, this was for my English reading list. 11 Classics…ugh. So i’m starting with “Nostromo” by Joseph Conrad and if I can find the time inbetween to read what I want then i’ll be reading “But Inside I’m Screaming” by Elizabeth Flock.

I will have a few classics coming up that I have no choice to read. I find when I am forced to read something that I very seldom find any good in it. It’s wrong I know but that’s just the way it is. So if anyone has any help or information on the books I will be reading please do feel free to share them. I need it!

Great Words… What’s Your Favorite?

Words are a great thing. What would one do without them? Can you imagine not being able to explain how it feels to be in complete euphoria? I think that words are not only good for everyday use but also good to just give us good feelings.

We have all come across e-mail and sms forwards that require you to send back one word to that person describing them. Personally I love those. The best word that someone has used to describe me is EFFERVESCENT, and it’s one that I will never forget (makes me happy every time I think about it).

So here are some of the most beautiful words (in my opinion) that I have come across:

Effervescent (bubbly, enthusiastic, breezy, buoyant, zestful, lively)

Champagne (An effervescent wine)

Chaos (A condition of great disorder)

Ephemeral (short-lived)

Epiphany (A sudden revelation)

Evanescent (vanishing quickly)

Fragile (very delicate)

Fugacioius (Escaping)

Loquacious (Talkative)

Onomatopoeia (The creation of words by imitating sound)

Pastiche (A mixture of artwork from a number of sources)

Rhapsody (A beautiful musical piece)

Ripple (A small, circular wave emerging from a central point)

Serendipity (A fortunate discovery by accident)

Soliloquy (Dramatic speech intended to give the illusion of unspoken reflections)

Whisper (Speaking without the vibration of the vocal folds)

Please add words to this list that you find beautiful (if you have any) by comments.

Lets All Bake A Cake…

So tonight i decided to bake Matt a cake for his birthday (tomorrow). Looks good so far. I can’t post pictures yet as Matt will then know how it looks but will definitely post some photo’s of the cake soon. What I have decided to post now though is a recipe for a deliciously moist CHOCOLATE cake. This is a really easy cake to bake even for first timers.

Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

  • 23cm X 32cm pan / 2 X 20cm pans
  • 250g butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups flour
  • pinch salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1tsp bicarb
  • 1tsp vanilla essence
  • 250ml cream
  • 100g chocolate
  • 1 bar top deck

Instructions: pre-heat oven 180° C

Melt 250g butter with 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of cocoa. Sift 2 cups of flour and a pinch of salt with the 2 cups of sugar. Pour the cocoa mixture into the flour mixture. Add 1/2 cup of buttermilk, 2 eggs, 1 tsp bicarb and 1 tsp of vanilla essence. Beat everything together until it has reached a smooth consistency.

Bake at 180° C for 50 minutes. Take out and let the cake cool in the pan.

Topping:

Melt 250ml cream with 100g of chocolate. Pour the chocolate topping over the cooled cake and grate top deck on top.

If you prefer an icing for the cake click here for a wonderful butter icing from BBC food.

Please let me know if you have tried the recipe and how it turned out.
