Dear Dear Diary…
Posted on August 22, 2009 in Misfits.
Since I was a little girl I have always tried to keep a diary, and never been successful. After a few months, weeks and sometimes even days I just forget about it or I land up tearing the pages out (if spiral bound) and use the notebook for a more ‘practical’ reason.
Many people may say that diaries are outdated. That nobody keeps diaries anymore. And that blogging is the ‘new’ diary. I kind of agree with all of these statements, but there are certain things that people might not want to know, and there are certain things that I don’t want people to know. Many people say that keeping a diary is very therapeutic, and this may be true.
Why no? Why again? I was reading ‘A year in high heels’ by Camilla Morton and I came across a section on diary keeping that made me decide to give it another try.
Mae West said “Keep a diary and one day it will keep you”. This is such a lovely quote to me. It also makes me think of the notebook and how life sometimes messes things up. Sometimes somethings happen that could cause you to forget and what better way to remember things in your life than through your own words.
Maybe this is just a stupid idea? Maybe I’m just being restless as I have been sick for a week. I know that I might not keep this diary for very long. I know how bad I have been at keeping diaries in the past. But I also know that life is worth giving yourself many chances, so here I go again.
I have decided to blog about keeping this diary. I have a very pretty (non-spiral bound) diary, which might just keep me inspired to write on it’s beautiful pages.
Every now and then there are pages with little sayings, tips, and cute anecdotes about Romance, which I will put up on my blog.
“Feed your lover chocolates between kisses, and whisper sweet nothings”
Movies and books to inspire Diary Writing: Bridget Jones, Adrian Mole
Something I have for you to think about is “Are Diaries so 1990′s?”. “Is blogging the new diary?”. “Would you keep a hand written diary?”. “Do you have a diary?”.
Current Reads
Posted on July 2, 2008 in Pen on paper.
Well I went shopping the other day. Fun? Not really, this was for my English reading list. 11 Classics…ugh. So i’m starting with “Nostromo” by Joseph Conrad and if I can find the time inbetween to read what I want then i’ll be reading “But Inside I’m Screaming” by Elizabeth Flock.
I will have a few classics coming up that I have no choice to read. I find when I am forced to read something that I very seldom find any good in it. It’s wrong I know but that’s just the way it is. So if anyone has any help or information on the books I will be reading please do feel free to share them. I need it!

Look at these pretty flowers I got from the lovely teachers and admin at the studio for when I was in hospital. I love Donzelle to bits.
Latest Book

I have decided to blog about the latest books that I am reading.
At the moment I am reading “The Chocolate Run” by Dorothy Koomson. It is wonderfully written and draws the reader into the lives of Amber Salpone, her bestfriend Jen, and her friend Greg Walterson (who is a complete womaniser).
This is a witty read and if you love chocolate it is one that will touch your taste-paleted heart.
This is the first novel I am reading by Dorothy Koomson and it is wonderful. It sometimes takes me a while to get into a book but I was hooked on this one from the first page. If her other books are this good i will have to give them a try.
Visit Dorothy Koomson’s site here to read more about her and this lovely book.
“Dear John”
Posted on April 12, 2008 in Pen on paper.
So i just finished this book called “Dear John” Nicholas Sparks. Not sure who he is? Well he is the guy that wrote The Notebook, A Walk To Remember and Message In A Bottle. Does that ring a bell?
By now one can figure that it is a romance. Yep, that’s exactly it. Kind of Pearl Harbour meets Full Metal Jacket…not quite, but close. Well it is a modern war romance. Iraq, 9/11, and all that. It’s great because it’s so real and so possible. It makes one wonder if there really is some kind of romance like in this novel going on out there.
I don’t want to give the story away, so i suggest you go read it. It’s worth the read. I’m sure every girl will agree with me that romances are great (not too much of them though). This one is even better as it’s something to relate to.
I happen to have a weak spot for this kind of thing and i just loved it. Nicholas Sparks is a great writer. We have all seen the movies adapted out of his books and they were great. His novels are even better. :)
This book has inspired me to go outside when there is a full moon and just reflect on the good in my life, particularly the happy times in my relationship with Matt. Books like this make me all soppy and girly, I just can’t help it.
Girly Classics
Posted on April 8, 2008 in Misfits.
This is me. This is my blog. Please read the about me section for more information on who I am, What I do and where i am from.
What i have lately found to be interesting about myself is the fact that, even though I am an English Studies student at the University of Pretoria and one would think that i enjoy reading great English classics and famous literature pieces but instead i mainly only ever want to read soppy but funny girly books by authors like Marian Keyes and books with titles like “Pants on Fire” and “Pretty Little Mistakes”. I simply can’t help it. These are the kinds of novels i prefer. I see them as a form of escapism where i can relate to the characters and their feelings.
Of course most of these books end with juicy yet happy endings. Does this mean that I always look on the bright side of life or simply that i can be naive? I would like to think that it is a little bit of both worlds. In my eyes naivety is not always a bad thing. It keeps ones spirit high and ones hopes up. These could be false illusions that i am creating for myself but isn’t it ok if that is what makes me happy? Isn’t it ok if that is what makes my world go around?
