Birthdays, Birthdays and More Birthdays

Posted on April 12, 2009 in Misfits.

These last few months have been rather hectic BIRTHDAY wise. For some strange reason I know a lot of people that have their birthdays around this time of year. It gets rather expensive to buy everyone gifts but it’s one thing in life that I can’t help and love doing. Gift Buying.

I love to see the expression on people’s faces when they open the gifts. I always force them to open it while i’m around. I don’t like it when people keep all their gifts aside and open them “later” or all at once. How boring! Open it now! I think I get more excited than they do.

I love buying cards aswell. You get some really crazy cards and some beautiful cards. I can’t really put any photo’s of the cards up yet as my friends that have not received their gifts will then see their cards (if they read this) – where is the fun in that? I will put some up later though.

Lets All Bake A Cake…

Posted on June 1, 2008 in Yummies.

So tonight i decided to bake Matt a cake for his birthday (tomorrow). Looks good so far. I can’t post pictures yet as Matt will then know how it looks but will definitely post some photo’s of the cake soon. What I have decided to post now though is a recipe for a deliciously moist CHOCOLATE cake. This is a really easy cake to bake even for first timers.

Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

  • 23cm X 32cm pan / 2 X 20cm pans
  • 250g butter
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 2 cups flour
  • pinch salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1tsp bicarb
  • 1tsp vanilla essence
  • 250ml cream
  • 100g chocolate
  • 1 bar top deck

Instructions: pre-heat oven 180° C

Melt 250g butter with 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of cocoa. Sift 2 cups of flour and a pinch of salt with the 2 cups of sugar. Pour the cocoa mixture into the flour mixture. Add 1/2 cup of buttermilk, 2 eggs, 1 tsp bicarb and 1 tsp of vanilla essence. Beat everything together until it has reached a smooth consistency.

Bake at 180° C for 50 minutes. Take out and let the cake cool in the pan.

Topping:

Melt 250ml cream with 100g of chocolate. Pour the chocolate topping over the cooled cake and grate top deck on top.

If you prefer an icing for the cake click here for a wonderful butter icing from BBC food.

Please let me know if you have tried the recipe and how it turned out.
