The City I Live In – Pretoria

I have realised that there are so many things in life that we all take for granted. This got me thinking about what I take for granted.

One of those things is the city I live in. Pretoria. It’s a city that not many people would think of as beautiful, but if you are in the rite place at the rite time of year it happens to be absolutely stunning.

Here are some photo’s of this lovely city in South Africa.

I have to admit that during the October/November months being in Pretoria is like being in a fantasy world. Pretoria seems to resemble some fairy city out of a story book. It’s an amazing time of year to visit the city as there are almost more purple trees than green ones.

Donzelle Show 2008

Yey! Our show DVD finally arrived. I have to say the videographer did an awesome job and the quality of the DVD is the best we have ever had from one of our shows. Here are a few screen shots from the show itself.

Celebrating The Chinese New Year

So for the Chinese, today is the new year. The year of the Ox. Apparently this is the sign of prosperity through hard work. People born in this year are said to be born leaders and quite dependable. They also need peace and quiet in order to work through their ideas. When their mind has been set it is very difficult to convince them otherwise. In other words they are stubborn!

I’m born in the year of the Dragon. Please note that the dragon is the only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac. The dragon symbolises strength, health, harmony, wealth and good luck. People that are born in the year of the dragon are flamboyant, attractive and full of vitality and strength. They also have a natural charisma and it is unlikely for them to escape unnoticed from a party or to take second place in a competition. These people have an extremely active mind and show an interest in the world around them. They are also self-confident and because they are larger than life, dragon people like to do everything on a grand scale

I like the sound of the dragon more and more. I think I’ll want to have a kid born in this year, then they will surely have success in the world right?

Well I’m sure that all the different years have their ups and downs. For now though I have some pictures from our celebration of the Chinese New Year at the Buddhist Temple.

Out Of Action

Yes, I have been out of action for most of the past week. That’s not only my blog but the rest of the Internet too.

Other than the fact that out Internet was down, ugh, I was trying to catch up on some reading before University starts where I am left with absolutely no time to read what I want. That’s what happens when you study English. You read many many books (most of them you don’t really want to read).

I’m starting the day off with a bang though. I have decided to go jogging and do my push ups (more about them later). Jogging is a good thing to do rite now as it gives me time to listen to my ipod. I really need to chose music and decide on the songs that my various classes will be dancing to (in competitions that is). There is so much preparation before a class that people never realise and that we don’t get paid for.

So yes I am officially starting my first day back at the studio today. It’s nice though as I don’t start University yet (that only starts next week) so I can get used to my dancing routine before I add more to my – already hectic – days.

Routine?

New Year. New Ways. Routine?

It’s around this time every year that people are just starting to get back into their old routines or into new ones. It’s a really fun part of the year as there are many unpredictable things that can happen and many things that can go wrong too.

Part of my Yearly routine is university classes and dance classes. This is the time of year when I easily get confused and find myself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Usually, or at least last year I seemed to find myself in the rite place at the wrong time. That’s the correct lecture hall but in a statistics class. EEK! Stats are not for me…we have never and will never be friends. This happened twice. I was starting to believe that the universe wanted me to take stats or study something that includes stats….NOOOOOO!

This is also the time when everyone starts to go back to work after the holidays. Work is normally something that people are not too used to after a good restful break of doing nothing. This means that people tire easily and become moody very quickly. I don’t like that part of routine.

Honestly I’m not into a routine yet. The next two weeks I will be spending my time getting into that routine but for now (while I still have a short bit of holiday left) I will try to finish my book and make sure I fit some “me” time in.

A good example of how much I’m still in holiday mode is when I took my cousins daughter to school this morning (pre-kindergarten) as a favour. Please note: School starts at 8am. She arrived at my house around 6am (as her mom had to go to work early and her dad is on a business trip) and crawled into bed with me. At 7.45am I realised we had overslept. I jumped out of bed, got her dressed, Made breakfast – which she had to eat in the car – and got her to school by 8.15am. In all this rush we forgotĀ  her school bag…GREAT! So I made my way back home to fetch the bag for her. Maybe it’s not just routine and still being stuck in my holiday ways. Maybe it’s just the fact that I am not close to ready to have kids any time soon. For now I think I’ll stick to teaching them and not having them.

For everyone else that is back at work and back into routine, I would love to hear about any funny things that went wrong, or any unexpected things that might have happened. I know these things don’t just happen to me, so please share.

My New Haircut

Ok, so I had my hair cut and dyed today. I can’t remember if this is exactly what I asked the hairdresser for, but hey it’s not like you ever really get what you ask for at hairdressers. He also cut off a lot more than I first thought. Man I almost got the fright of my life when I got home and looked in the mirror.

I have come to the conclusion that I look somewhat like a Blonde Harajuku (Japanese) girl. Please Tell me it’s not that bad. I don’t even know what to think any more. Did I make the right decision? Do I look like a dogs breakfast? I need help here, please!

Boomtown Rats – You Gotta Love Them

I don’t Like Monday’s by The Boomtown Rats.

I have done a post before on this particular song. It’s such a great song though that I feel it deserves another. Everyone hates Mondays so I think everyone will relate to this song. It’s the best thing to brighten a mood.

My favorite part of the video is close to the end. Bob Geldolf reminds me of a friend of mine way too much here. I love it. It gets me every time.

Isn’t this just the best. Look at his glasses, I love them!

Classic! Look at the guy in the background, who wouldn't love that?

For those of you that haven’t seen the music video yet, I suggest you have a look. If it doesn’t make your day…then I don’t know what will. Enjoy.

20 Something Bloggers – My New Favorite Thing

So I have been doing some snooping, some reading of new blogs. And along the way I came across 20 Something Bloggers, where I landed up finding even more lovely blogs to read and instantly made new friends. I love it.

I think it is the perfect thing for all 20 Something Bloggers to join, so if you haven’t yet…I suggest you do. Then add me!

What To Remember When Stretching

Stretching is an important part in any athlete or dancers life. Here are a few basic points to remember to keep in mind next time you stretch.

  • Always hold stretches for 20-30 seconds, slowly increase to 60 seconds.
  • Give your muscles resting time (break for a few seconds in-between stretches).
  • Vary your stretching techniques.
  • Never bounce in stretches, hold them in a static position and slowly push yourself further.
  • It is important to stretch both before and after a workout.

Suburban Girl Inspired Me

It’s no secret that I am in fact a girly movie fan. I love them, I really do. I can’t help myself, even if I wanted to. It’s also no secret that I’m not too sure what I’m going to do with my degree.

This movie opened my eyes to a part of my degree that, for some reason, I have never even considered before. Editing! It’s something that many of the people I’m studying with have thought of, and for some strange reason I just never did. Well now I have and I like the idea.

Suburban Girl

Over all Suburban Girl is a great girly movie. Everyone that loves this kind of film should definitely rent it. Here’s the trailer.
